When the layout is fixed, the ECO problem changes

Late fixes are constrained by fixed placement, limited routing, available spare-cell types, and the need to avoid a costly mask re-spin. A functionally correct patch is not enough: it must map to real, reachable spare cells and remain verifiable.

GOF connects the functional and physical sides of the flow. It reads the netlist and physical data, identifies the available spare cells, maps the patch logic onto them, reports the result, and retains the ECO script for review and replay.

From functional patch to physical ECO

1. Read the design context

Load the implementation netlist, libraries, and optional LEF/DEF physical data.

2. Map to available spares

Identify spare instances and map the ECO logic onto the cells available in the fixed layout.

3. Verify and hand off

Write the resulting netlist and ECO script, report spare usage, and perform the appropriate LEC flow.

What to bring to an evaluation

Start with the ECO type, the implementation stage, the spare-cell situation, and the current blocker. If a shared proof case is appropriate, we will agree on a secure transfer method before exchanging any design data.
